A Core Supplier Cannot Be Qualified by One Exceptional Parameter

  • Chenfan Power

This technical article is in English. Only the surrounding interface is localized.

A superb burr result cannot compensate for a winding interface that does not fit.

A low loss figure cannot compensate for an untraceable material substitution.

Material identity, fit and magnetic acceptance appear as mandatory gates before commercial preference is considered.
A strong result in one category cannot numerically compensate for an unresolved mandatory functional requirement. · Chenfan Electric

Assign each parameter its actual function

That is why a supplier score should not allow unrelated strengths to cancel critical failures.

Burr height, stacking factor, material loss, B800 and joint geometry each describe a different part of the product or process. Their relevance depends on what is being measured, under which conditions and for which failure mode.

A material property can help establish the design input. A dimensional characteristic can establish a physical interface. A finished-core measurement can assess an agreed electrical condition. None of these is a universal certificate for the others.

Check representative and complementary evidence

Separate qualification gates from preferences. A required material identity or critical assembly limit may be a gate: the offer must satisfy it before commercial comparison. Among technically acceptable offers, price, delivery flexibility and supporting service can then be evaluated on their merits.

That is more defensible than a weighted average that allows a very low price to mathematically offset a failed mandatory requirement.

Next ask whether the evidence is representative. One low burr measurement at a convenient location does not characterize all cutting operations. One carefully selected core test does not establish production consistency. An equipment list does not prove that the relevant process is controlled.

Use complementary evidence rather than more unrelated numbers. For a joint-sensitive design, combine the approved geometry, the process that preserves its sequence and relevant finished-core behavior. For a demanding assembly interface, combine the datum definition, measurement capability and an appropriate fit verification.

Keep critical failures outside an average supplier score

The scope should remain proportionate. A small repeat lamination order and a first large complete-core order do not need identical qualification exercises. The product’s functions and the change being introduced should determine the depth of review.

For each claimed strength, the buyer should be able to complete one sentence: this evidence reduces uncertainty about this requirement. If the connection cannot be made, the parameter may be interesting without being decisive.

A capable supplier is not the one with the longest collection of attractive numbers. It is the one whose relevant evidence covers the functions being purchased, with no critical requirement hidden inside an average score.

Practical takeaway

Exceptional results should not mathematically compensate for unrelated critical failures.

Chenfan Electric manufactures custom transformer cores according to customer drawings. Where applicable to the specified material and core design, agreed process controls include burr height below 0.02 mm and stacking factor above 97%. Measurement methods and acceptance conditions are defined for each order.
