Step-Lap Transformer Cores: Preserve the Joint Pattern During Assembly

Duration 00:56 · 1080 × 1920

Technical summary

Magnetic flux turns and transfers between laminations at a transformer core corner. See how a multi-step lap distributes that transfer across more layers, then examine cutting length, angle, burr condition and the lacing pattern during top-yoke removal and reassembly.

Transcript
At a core corner, magnetic flux turns and transfers between laminations. A conventional lap alternates joint positions between two locations. Flux detours around each gap through neighbouring sheets, concentrating the transfer. Now spread the joint positions over five steps, an example within the article's typical range. The transfer is shared across more layers and a wider area. That is the purpose of multi-step lap. The drawing only works when the build preserves it. Length and angle errors change the overlap. Burrs can hold the joint open. When the top yoke is removed for winding assembly, rebuild the same lacing pattern. Joint geometry, edge condition and reassembly all belong in the inspection.
