The Science of Magnetostriction and Noise Control
A significant factor in transformer noise (and its corresponding energy loss) is magnetostriction—the microscopic change in physical dimensions of the CRGO steel due to alternating magnetization.
We mitigate this through two precise engineering interventions:
- Domain Refinement: Utilizing laser-scribed or plasma-treated CRGO grades (like 23RK080 or 27RK100) physically reduces the size of magnetic domains, lowering anomalous eddy current losses.
- Compressive Stress Optimization: Our CNC clamping system ensures optimal pressure. Excess stress dramatically increases magnetostriction, while insufficient stress reduces the Stacking Factor.
Advanced Step-Lap Geometry: Beyond the Basics
While Step-Lap is standard, its optimization is a differentiator.
- The Problem: The perpendicular joint between the yoke and leg laminations presents high magnetic resistance.
- The Solution (Deep Step-Lap): By utilizing 6 or 7 distinct cutting stages and an overlap (s) greater than the thickness (d), we create a magnetic path that smoothly redirects flux, reducing localized saturation.

- Burr Height: Rigidly maintained below 0.015mm. Burrs provide a conductive path across laminations, dramatically increasing eddy current losses.
- Stacking Factor: Guaranteed >97% for 0.23mm Hi-B materials, optimizing the maximum flux density (Bmax).
- Shearing Stress Reduction: Our specialized annealing process following shearing relieves the residual stresses introduced by cutting, restoring the material’s magnetic permeability.
