Transformer Core Clamping: Why More Pressure Is Not Always Better

Duration 00:50 · 1920 × 1080

Technical summary

Controlled clamping distributes pressure across the core laminations and supports stable assembly geometry. This video explains pressure plates, bolt torque, band tension and tightening sequence as parts of the specified transformer core assembly process.

Transcript
More tightening is not always better for a transformer core. Too little restraint allows laminations and joints to move. Too much pressure, or uneven pressure, can bend sheets and introduce harmful stress. The useful range comes from the core design. There is no universal clamping pressure for every core. The frame and pressure plates must spread the load across the packet. Apply the specified bolt torque or band tension in the defined sequence, and keep the record. Protect the insulation and cut edges during assembly. Recheck where the design and process require it. The aim is repeatable, controlled clamping, verified on the finished core.
